On September 9, 1969 The Official Languages Act (French: Loi sur les langues officielles) is a Canadian law that came into force, which gives English and French equal status in the government of Canada. This makes them "official" languages of Canada. English and French have preferred status in law over all other languages.

Canadian Packaging Regulations

- Canada's federal regulations demand that retail packaged goods have an equal English / French Canadian language format for all printed text on the package 

- Canada as well has strict packaging regulations on and for hazardous symbols

- Manuals of a product, must also be in English & French, or English, French & Spanish

- Depending on the product an English / French / Spanish packaging format may be acceptable for the retialer
